Fairies and Books

You know how they say a fairy dies every time someone says, "I don't believe in fairies"? Well I believe that just might hold true, (don't pretend like you don't want to believe in fairies too), and I recently stumbled upon a similar theory regarding books:

And I have to say that THIS theory holds absolutely true. I am convinced that watching Jersey Shore WILL make you dumber. It's inevitable.

Watch Jersey Shore=a Book Dies=Law of the Universe

And I'm even willing to as far as to say that every time a book dies a little piece of you dies, too.

Moral of the story?

Read a book and you save your life.

We Wouldn't Be A Proper Blog Without...

Jen and I are agreed, I think, when I say Neville was the best part about HP 7.2!

(I know every blog on the planet is posting about HP, but we wouldn't be a proper blog without one!)

At ILYBWHTSS (I Love You Because We Hate the Same Stuff) there are lots of things we love that make us love each other, too, and one of those things is Harry Potter. Jen is probably the biggest fan among us, but I would come in at a close second.

Being a literary major means I can appreciate the phenomenon that Harry Potter really was. It changed the reading world forever in a truly lovely and wonderful way.

So with the last and final movie coming out I wished I was back in Utah to share this momentous experience with Jen. But instead I saw it with my husband, whom I love dearly, but who has never read the books and I just don't think you can really appreciate the HP movies if you've never read the books. The scene when Harry collects Severus' tears, or the train station scene with Dumbledore, or when Doby dies and when Dumbledore dies (we all cried), or when Ron and Hermione finally acknowledge how they feel about each other; all of these things - I just don't think they mean as much if you haven't read the books.

So this is my tribute to the magical world of Harry Potter. While the release of the final movie is at some level sad and a little depressing, it's okay because I will always have the books. So I can visit the world of magic anytime, anywhere.

P.S. I secretly, or not so secretly, wish the world of Harry Potter was real and I could have gone to Hogwarts and learned all sorts of spells and magic!

My First World Problem

So the other morning I bought a bagel on my way to work and when I got to work I realized they hadn't put the cream cheese on it, but I proceeded to eat it anyway because I was so hungry. Needless to say it wasn't very good. But I didn't have any other food besides nuts and I've been trying to not take a lunch at work so I can leave earlier, so I new I wouldn't eat much for a while, so...

And I kept thinking about all those wasted calories because if I'm going to eat an unhealthy bagel then I at least want it to taste good...but it didn't.

Anyway, I posted my sad story on FB and then my husband sent me this video. And then I felt like an idiot.

So for all of you with first world problems like me, I dedicate this video to you.

The Edge of Not So Much Glory

First and foremost, I secretly pride myself on being a lover of all things 80's. My go to albums are called Monster's of Rock, Monster Ballads, and Big Hair Rocks. Really. I'm not lying. Okay, maybe I was on that last one. But, I am here to tell you, Brett Michael's is STILL hot and spandex is not just for working out people!! Its reeeeeeally comfortable! Davey, help me out here.

Possibly the best thing about that decade? Big hair...Great Bands... and most of all, the dance move that has no name... the skip, snap and spin around. You know it. Its the move that we all envision ourselves doing to any great song. You can't tell me that at one time you didn't want to dance like Lee Montgomery in "Girls Just want to have Fun." Come on people, best example of 80's dancing EVER!! That hair! Those hammer pants! But... that's a tangent for another time.

The whole point of my "I love the 80's" rant is that when Lady Gaga's, "Edge of Glory" came out on the radio, I was dancing (in my head of course) like a neon wearing, big haired, ripped tights freak. What can possibly be more inspiring than an 80's inspired dance hit that rocks the saxophone? Ill tell you what. An 80's inspired dance hit that rocks the sax AND that I can do the skip, snap and spin move too! Sadly though, when the Lady Gaga music video came out I had an expectation that was NOT fulfilled.

Yes, Yes, I know, I know,  the legendary Laurieanne Gibson was "supposedly" the choreographer on this video. Why do you think I was so pumped?!! Laurieanne is the EPITOME of great 80's dance videos. Janet Jackson anyone? But seriously, exactly WHAT did she choreograph in this monstrosity? The hookeresque quality of her street walking? The odd back bend over the concrete rail? Or the over kill of sidewalk steam... REALLY? Soooo disappointing. Could you please throw in one more oddly placed fist pump for me? Or better yet, encourage Lady Gaga to rub her butt up on the brick wall and spread her legs apart a few more times. There is a reason why So You Think You Can Dance cut the premier of the video short. It was embarrassing!!! What a waste of a good saxophone....

What Makes Katy Perry Rock

Not gonna lie, I like Katy Perry. Say what you will. And this video is what makes her so great. She doesn't take herself too seriously, she has a sense of humor and is still stays feminine and she's actually talented. And though I think Rebecca Black and her fame are ridiculous, it's kind of sweet that Katy included her in her video (Though Black seems a bit young for the setting) because whether I like Black or not, she got A LOT of crap she didn't really deserve for her Friday video. (Her parents should have been publicly ridiculed for letting their daughter make such a video. Oh, AND for PAYING FOR IT!) But I digress, that is a different post. For now, here is Katy's awesome new video!

I Call You and You Text Back? WTF??

Something that really bugs me...when I call someone and they TEXT me back?? I take the time to call you and you can't even take the time to find my name in your phone and press 'call'? You don't even have to dial my freaking number! What is up with that?

And no, this situation does not apply to those times when you CAN'T call back, such as if you are in a movie, a meeting, somewhere loud, etc. Obviously there are times when you can't pick up your phone or call back, I understand. But when you are perfectly able to call me back and you're just too lazy? That's when I have a problem because frankly I'm too lazy to text. Texting takes FOREVER. And I can't drive and text. I can't clean, type or walk my puppy and text. Heck, I can't even walk myself and text! I called you for a reason, if I wanted to text I would have done it.

And the worst is when you get a text after you've called someone that says, "Did you call"? OBVIOUSLY I called you! That's why you had a missed call on your phone that had my name by it! Duh! There are such things as dumb questions.

Does this bother anyone else? If this bothers you, too feel free to leave a comment. If it doesn't and you want to defend yourself and your actions, go for it, but I may not be calling you anytime soon. ;)

LMFAO - My Summer Song

I'm so obsessed with this song that I made my husband call me back when I was listening to it!  I love the I Heart Radio app for my iPhone (it has way less commercials than the Pandora app), but like radio you can't pause or restart a song.  My husband called and I said, "My favorite song is on can I call you later?"  Every day I'm shuffling!
